Project -  Overviews of Genomics Research in ten European countries

Description -  Genome Canada called upon Science-Metrix to evaluate European research in the field of genomics. So far, Science-Metrix has delivered a report on genomic research for each of the following countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

For this mandate, Science-Metrix also produced a comparative analysis on the state of research in genomics in Canada and the nine European countries in order to identify the most promising avenues for mutually advantageous collaboration. These reports on genomic research in Europe were based on information drawn from the Medline database, the Science Citation Index database and the USPTO database (scientometrics and technometrics).

In addition to bibliometric and technometric information, each report provided qualitative data on national research programs and an overview of the dynamics of genomic research in the academic, health and private sectors and in national scientific networks. Contact details for the most active establishments were also provided. Project deliverables included both electronic directories and hard copy. Genome Canada senior managers used the strategic information from the reports to prepare and enrich their scientific missions in Europe and as an input in forging strategic alliances.
