Description - Maurice Avery, founder and president of SoftInnove Inc. commissioned Science-Metrix to compile statistics on the Canadian and international agri-food sector. Science-Metrix retrieved data through its informational monitoring of agencies that produce national and international statistics, including Statistics Canada (StatCan), Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAC), the National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Analysis of these statistics provided an overview of the Canadian agri-food sector both by province and compared to the world. In particular, statistics on total gross farm receipts, agricultural capital, funding of R&D and the proportion of GDP attributable to the agri-food sector were provided.
