IMPACT INDICATORS OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER ACTIVITIES

Projet - Developing impact indicators for CEFRIO's activities
Client - Centre francophone d'informatisation des organisations (CEFRIO)

Description - As subcontractors of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM), Science-Metrix contributed to the development of performance indicators which will allow the Centre francophone d'informatisation des organisations (CEFRIO) to measure the impact of their activities and projects in social innovation. The research team was commissioned to determine a typology of the potential impact of CEFRIO’s R&D projects relating to knowledge transfer. Science-Metrix analyzed a sample of about ten CEFRIO projects in order to identify typical objectives and common activities. This analysis aimed to specify the level of detail on which it would be best to measure CEFRIO’s impact. The criteria used to build a robust system for evaluating the impact of research were: 1) accessibility, 2) comparability and 3) profitability.

The report contains four sections. The first section provides the results of an analysis of the CEFRIO projects’ objectives. The second section analyzes their typical activities, while the third proposes a structure for impact evaluation which takes into account learning outcomes and their effects on project participants. The fourth and final section provides examples showing how the proposed indicators could be operationalized by means of questionnaires.
