In an article published January 20th in Nature, Science-Metrix US chief executive officer Caroline Wagner provided insight into emerging international collaboration trends.

Wagner weighed in on recent studies that show persistent growth in the proportion of scientific papers written with international co-authors. This growth is seen across disciplines and regions, although countries in the European Union are currently leading the way. Science-Metrix expects this trend to continue with the emergence of a more globalized science system. "What we really have is a breakdown of national concepts and national systems," says Wagner.
