Michel Trépanier is a research professor at the Urbanisation, Culture et Société centre of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS-UCS) and at the Institut de recherche sur les PME (an institute for research into small and medium enterprises or SMEs – IRPME-UQTR). He is also a full member of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie (CIRST-UQÀM). He holds a PhD in sociology from Université de Montréal (UdeM). He specializes in research into the sociological and technological aspects of the management and use of public services and facilities. He also studies the development of large-scale scientific and technological instruments. Michel Trépanier is especially interested in technology transfer, relations between universities and businesses and innovative practices in industry, SMEs and governmental and municipal agencies.
Michel Trépanier has expert knowledge about the utilization, transfer and impact of technology in Quebec’s industries. He has a vast experience of conducting surveys in scientific and technological organizations, such as his recent surveys on mechanisms for technology transfer and the impact of Centres collégiaux de transfert de technologie (CCTT), the technological development of SMEs and a feasibility study for a Quebec Centre de soutien à l'innovation dans le secteur du meuble (a proposed centre for innovation in Quebec’s furniture industry (>>>).
